Why exact age matters

Job applications, exams, visas and insurance often require your exact age on a specific date, not just the year of birth.

The manual method

Subtract the birth year from the current year, then adjust if your birthday has not yet occurred this year. Months and days are counted the same way, borrowing from the previous month when needed.

Leap years

A year has 366 days when it is divisible by 4, except century years not divisible by 400. People born on 29 February celebrate on 28 February or 1 March in non-leap years.
